Posing and lighting for portraits

Bring a camera if you wish to, but a sketch pad is more useful to note lighting positions and body form.

 

  • Since the great masters of paint and sculpture, there have been defined posing and lighting techniques that bring the best out of your subject.
  • Learn how to bring out a subjects’ strong points and handle them with confidence.
  • The best posing does not look ‘posed’.
  • Good lighting and posing will cut down your post production time significantly.
  • Norman is trained in classical portrait lighting and posing and has been a professional photographer since the late 1970s when he started Gainsborough studios, Norman has won many awards, and his school of professional photography has produced more “photographic businesses” than any other SA education institution.

Basic photoshop for photographers

You do not need to bring a computer, but you are welcome to. There is not enough time to set up and guide attendees’ computers.

  • Photoshop is a maze of distraction, Mel with demonstrate essential tools and steps for fine tuning your images.
  • Beginning at a RAW file, Mel will walk you to a print ready image.
  • Mel will focus on a non-destructive Photoshop workflow.
  • You will leave with a new confidence in your photoshop skills.
  • Melissa Neumann is one of Adelaides most experienced and award winning portrait photographers, Specialising in families, children and weddings since 1989. Mel is also a TAFE lecturer in photography and AIPP Councillor.

Advanced skin retouching in photoshop
