Colour management
Why colour manage? To improve the accuracy of colour reproduction between digital input, monitor and digital output.
What is colour management? In simple terms, the process of tuning your cameras, scanners, computers, software and printers into a world standard for colour.
What is involved in colour management? Using special hardware and software, digital devices are made to perform to standards (calibrated) then their performance with a range of colours assessed (profiled). The resulting profiles are then slotted into your studios’ workflow.
We offer a full range of colour management services;
Monitor profiling on site – $150 first screen $75 subsequent screens done simultaneously.
Printer profiling on site – $450 per profile Printer profiling remote – $150 per profile Consultancy and training – $100 per hour.
The remote profiling service requires the customer to have a fair degree of knowledge of their system. With all profiling services, time is taken to educate the customer in what is being done with the aim of raising awareness of colour standards.
We use Gretag MacBeth spectrophotometers, colorimeters and software.
Download our AtkinsTechnicolour Colour Settings file (Right-click on link and save to disk) to set up your colour settings in Adobe Photoshop CS (all versions so far). To install:
Mac: place the .csf inside user home folder/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Settings
Win: place the .csf inside C:/Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Color/Settings
Once the file is installed, you launch Photoshop, and go to the edit menu and choose colour settings, then from the top drop down menu, select the “Atkins_ARGB_convert”, this will set all of the below settings to work well with us and other ICC compliant printers. Don’t forget though….always embed your RGB profile in your files.
Download our AtkinsTechnicolour ICC profile (generic) print profile – right-click here and save file to your desktop. While we use 4 separate profiles, they have only minor subtle differences, and considering they are to be used for softproofing, this one will do the trick. When downloaded, you may find the profile has an extension other than .icc, if it does, just change the extension to “.icc”. Here are a few more profiles we use:
Atkins Metallic Profile.
