More about our Gicleé printing

It has been over 200 years since a new widely accepted printed art medium has been introduced. Gicleé (pronounced zhee-clay), is the process of utilising archival ink technology on acid-free art papers and canvas. When canvas is used, we additionally over-spray the print with a water based archival sealant.

David Hobbs of Duckpond fame, runs our Gicleé department, his work is superb. David chases continuous tone issues and colour management like a dog with a bone. You will be impressed with his work.

Each Gicleé edition print is virtually identical to the master we make, thus each can be considered an original. Our Gicleé printing meets the exacting standards of museums and art gallerys throughout the world.

Routinely we print on: Canvas, German Etching paper, PhotoRag paper, Satin, Gloss, Lustre and our new surface Fine Art Pearl, an archival fiber base paper that looks and feels like traditional photographic fiber based papers.

A note about gloss gicleé papers, they  are  high gloss material, in that it will show handling problems and cannot be in direct contact with glass or arcylic as the two smooth surfaces will firstly look like they are sticking due to a hydorscopic effect, and will eventually stick.

A note about the matte art papers (German Etching and PhotoRag). They are extremely delicate surfaces that need careful handling and careful presentation. They will scuff easily, and in areas of wear, on the edge particularly, dark inks will rub off. So they are  best presented in a well protected manner. Please contact us for ideas on presentation.
