Chris Sui’s “Then we keep living”

We had an excursion as a team off to see this remarkable exhibition at Nexus Gallery.

Chris’ work reflects on political change in Honk Kong and how it is impacting its people. For a city that throbs with trade and humanity, this is being seriously threatened by the Chinese government exerting control. There has been a significant exodus due to fear for the future.

Chris’s work has a public and private side, the colour images (shot on Kodak film) shows the intense man made hive like feel, and the black and whites are reflective details on a personal scale. Both combine to produce a tense, empty effect.

It’s all there but the people, there are few pictured, it’s empty. While we know it is far from empty, the tension and fear has drained the city’s warmth and comfort.

The hero of the show is the MASSIVE framed sky line picture. Truly bold and impressive. It’s a double exposure, a visual representation of the our brain registering the scene in bites, or perhaps ‘double vision’ rendered. It’s a masterpiece.

We are proud to have printed Chris’ first show, it’s amazing!
