Through The Lens.
SA Health’s initiative Seniors Card runs an annual photographic competition and exhibition, Through The Lens, which we have sponsored since it’s inception.
Entrants have to be Seniors Card holders (over 60), we get upwards of 800 submissions each year, and through a careful process with Lance from Diamonds Photographics, and Vanessa from SC, we distill it down to 5 winners and 5 runners up. We also choose a Judges Choice.
I want to pay special attention to this year’s Judges Choice, Pablo DeOliveira with “Rebirth no.6”.
My panoramic self-portrait, ‘Rebirth no.6’ began as a challenge – to merge landscape with self-portrait. On windswept West Cape, in Dhilba-Guuranda Innes National Park, I lay nude on stone, triggering the shutter with a hidden remote. Tech specs: ISO 80, f/22, 5sec exposure. Between grief and new beginning, I offered my body to sea and sky – a ritual of renewal. Created entirely by my hand, it marks my arrival in Australia, a surrender to nature, to love reclaimed, and the strength it takes to begin again.
It is great to see a well thought-out and executed image being presented.
