SALA SOLO for 2026

We are thrilled to announce that the SALA SOLO prize has been changed slightly and is being offered for the 2026 SALA Festival. The key change is that you can apply directly for the prize NOW, and it will be granted, produced and hung for this 2026 SALA Festival!

The other change is the hanging space, Praxis are proud to offer their front gallery, highly visible, it will be the face of their SALA showing.

We’ve been running this opportunity/prize since 2022 with Gavin from the Centre for Creative Photography, and Patty from Praxis Artspace. Patty, Gavin and I had had a blast, and are thrilled to offer this again.

SALA SOLO OPPORTUNITY

The SALA SOLO opportunity aims to support a South Australian photographic artist to produce new work for exhibition during SALA Festival 2026.

Applications open: 10 December 2025 – 12pm Friday 30 January 2026 (12noon)

Prize: a supported solo exhibition in SALA Festival 2026

  • Atkins Lab: In-kind prize of production of artwork (printing and mounting, as well as consulting with Paul Atkins) to the value of $5,500

  • Centre for Creative Photography: In-kind prize of 1on1 tuition/mentorship with Gavin Blake (Director) for up to 6 months duration (at agreed time between February-August 2026) to the value of $3,500

  • Praxis Artspace: In-kind prize of front exhibition space at Praxis Artspace during August 2026 plus curatorial assistance

  • SALA Festival: Complimentary premium registration for the 2026 SALA Festival.

How to apply

To apply for this opportunity, please create a 2-3 page PDF document (max size 10 MB – for digital viewing only) addressing the points below, and submit it to SALA Festival via this direct upload link.

  • Proposal of what the new work will be (material, size, content/subject matter, installation, etc)

  • How it is ‘new’ to the applicant. (a new method, material, thematic direction, scale, etc)

  • Three example images of the intended direction of the exhibition

  • A statement of what the work is about (ie. its story or message)

  • A rough indication of how the space (the front gallery at Praxis Artspace) will be utilised.
    Applicants may use multimedia or sculpture to support the presentation of the work.

  • Your details: Your name, your artist name/alias, phone number, email address, postal address (and residential postcode if different). Website optional. Please include a statement that you have read and agree to the Terms & Conditions.
