Why are JPGs the only file format accepted ? Isn't TIFF and PDF higher quality?

Short

JPEGs that are exported correctly at 100% quality are good enough for print.

Long

JPEG files CAN crush images but ONLY if they are handled poorly. If you save them with any compression, then yes, the compression will compromise the image. You get things called 'jpg artifacts'. These artifacts are easily seen in the file and every now and then we find someone who's compressed their file and we then contact them and get a fresh file. If you save and quality is set to 100%, you will not see any quality difference.

We have been printing with .jpg files saved at 100% for the last 20 years. We did a heap of testing and there is no visual difference at any stage, as long as the quality level is set to 100%. Our prints have won awards nationally and internationally and are in art galleries across the world. We do require all files to be supplied as .jpg because our ordering software can only accept that. That software is also internationally used by labs across the world with no compromise in quality.
