Collective Visions opens
The Photo Imagery Collective (PIC) opened their current show Collective Visions at the Newmarch Gallery in Prospect.
The collective was formed to elevate photography in the eye of the traditional art world. This is their second exhibition and features Ed Douglas, Vicky Dennison, Joe Felber, John Gitsham, David Hume, Mark Kimber, Heather Petty, Sam Oster, and Rosina Possingham.
They are tackling their objective showing a diverse range of methods and mediums, and with powerhouse members such as Mark Kimber. The show makes you sit up and pay attention to their message, it is impressive.
The Newmarch Gallery in Prospect is an ideal space, and the opening was PACKED. The work was hung sympathetically to the mediums, you could almost hear the works speaking to one another.
David Hume’s sublime seascape diptych, we had a hand in preparing. I treasure working with David, it’s a joy being invited in to his process and contributing what I can. The result is an all-consuming romantic swirl of ocean and sky. It’s a further development of his series from the Fleurieu Peninsula.
I am a big fan of Rosina Possingham’s cyanotypes, a grand multi-panel joiner from the Franklin River was spectacular. Mark Kimber’s Turner-esque AI work was in deep conversation with Ed Douglas’ futuristic figurative photo illustration, both stunning.
A lot more should be said about all of the work on the wall, it is a feast for the eye.
Don’t miss the show, see it in person.
